Soap is boring.

Or is it?

That is the question I find myself wondering. For most of my life I didn’t think much about soap.

As I got older, I started using whatever my wife bought me. Those body washes and so on are all the rage now. I don’t love them.

I went in search of something better. Something simple. A good bar of soap.

Finding Better Man Soap

My memories of bars of soap from growing up were not positive. Soap is soap. Most bar soaps are round, slippery, and dry out your skin.

I remember growing up with cheap bars of Dial soap. It worked. That’s about all I can say about it.

I went looking for a different kind of bar soap. Something that fit me as a man.

Looking online, you can find all kinds of interesting niche soaps designed for guys.

Interestingly, I didn’t find this soap online. I found it in Walgreens.

I was looking for something else and just for kicks I looked at the bar soap. Irish Spring had a new “Signature Collection” that looked promising.

The bars were bigger, the packaging simpler. It is classy, but not ridiculously so.

After all, it’s still soap.

So, I bought a package of soap. I think it was two or three bars. Around $4 maybe?

There were two kinds to choose from. I picked the “Exfoliating Scrub” that has milled oats in the bar. Honestly, it was a coin toss.

The Signature Soap Experience

Took it home, opened the package, it smelled nice. So, at least there is that.

The next day I took a shower and tried out the fancy new soap.

It was great. Wait, no. It IS great.

I’m still using it. Well, not right at this moment. I’ll probably use it again tomorrow.

Irish Spring Signature Collection Exfoliating Scrub is now my go to brand of bar soap for daily showering.

I like the feel of the bar. It’s a good sized brick of a bar. The corners are squared off, not round.

It smells good. Hopefully it makes me smell good.

I don’t think it dries out my skin like most cheap bar soaps do. After using it I feel clean, but I don’t have that over-dry bar soap feel to my skin.

More than anything, I think in a small way it makes my day better.

I don’t know if it is the oats or the smell or something else. I’m no soap expert. I just know that it’s a soap that I really like to use.

Compared to Old Spice Bar Soap

On a recent trip, I ended up trying out a cheaper Old Spice Timber bar soap. It was a decent soap, but I instantly regretted not getting the Irish Spring Signature soap instead.

Timber smelled fine and it is cheap. I just didn’t like the feel of it on my skin or in my hand.

To me, Old Spice Timber hand soap is more of a traditional bar soap with Old Spice scent added. Irish Spring Exfoliating Scrub feels different to me.

I’m not a soap expert, so it’s hard to quantify exactly. Luckily, I don’t really have to.

Final Verdict

If you’ve got this far you probably realize that I like this soap a lot. The only thing I would change is the name - Irish Spring Signature Collection Exfoliating Scrub is a terrible name. It doesn’t roll off the tongue at all.

They should have a simpler name like “Oat Soap” or “Brick Soap” or “Irish Spring Brick”.

No matter what you call it, it’s great soap.

Verdict: Highly Recommended.
