If you have a goal, there should only be one goal. Two goals compete. One goal is focus.

Give yourself focus.

With one goal in hand, repeat that one goal over and over again in your mind. Repeat the goal during the day. Give yourself goal reminders.

Focus is not an accident.

There is a difference between a dream and a goal. A dream is a nice to have idea that you’d be happy to experience someday. A goal is something you work hard to achieve.

When you set a goal, you must commit yourself to action. That action should be in service to the goal. If you want to achieve that goal, you have to be willing to sacrifice other things to get there.

What you give up is an individual thing. Every person is different.

What is the same is the commitment required to reach a goal.

Reaching your goal isn’t free.

If you want to be great at anything, you commit to that one thing and do what you need to pursue that goal.

You focus on the goal. You don’t forget the goal.

Don’t forget your goal

What works for me is to have goal reminders surrounding me. I write the goal down on paper and put it in front of me every day. I am setting my phone up to get text reminders, email reminders, notifications, whatever it takes to keep that goal in my mind.

Being top of mind is key to sticking with it.

I still do what I have to do to maintain my job and my life, but I don’t set competing priorities.

I have one goal. I keep telling myself that goal so that I don’t forget. I don’t lose track. I don’t let myself slip.

The goal is the goal.

Keep repeating that goal until you get there.

Focus on the goal

You know what it means to focus? It means to bring your attention to something so that you can see it with clarity. Eyes can’t focus on two disparate things. If you are looking at one thing you are ignoring something else.

That’s what it means to focus.

You ignore the world around you and you bring your attention to the one thing you wish to see clearly.

Do you want to reach your goal?

Focus, repeat, do what it takes.
