Original question from Quora:

What are some writing tips you can give me?

This question previously had question details. You can find them in the question comments.

My Answer:

There are 3 approaches I would consider taking…

  1. Start with “In The Beginning…” - It worked for The Bible and variations on that theme have worked well for a long time. A long time ago in a galaxy far far away… One upon a time…
  2. Begin in the middle! - Pick an arbitrary spot of action in the middle of the book. Get to a big climactic battle and end the first chapter cut it off before anything is resolved. A good cliffhanger moves things forward.
  3. Write something you hate - Write a beginning so terrible that you know you have to change it. It will give you ideas of what to do knowing what not to do.

There is no good formula to this kind of thing, you just write something and see what happens.
